Fall Retreat
Martha Belz

I hope you have marked you calendar and are planning to attend Foothill’s Fall Retreat. It will be held the weekend of September 26th.

Stephen Dietrich is providing our program entitled Reaching Out. Some of you may remember he was the pastor of Evergreen Presbyterian Church. He and Ben are developing the program together and I’m sure it will special.

The location of the Fall Retreat is once again Happy Valley Conference Center in Santa Cruz. The center is located in the beautiful redwoods and each room has its own heater and bathroom. The food is good and plentiful. And members of the Foothill Family will be there.

The costs have been set. The breakdown is as follows:

Adults: $170
12 to 19: $135
3 to 11: $90
Less than 3: $15

Partial weekend attendance is welcome. Prices are set based on amount of time present.

Registration after church will begin soon.

Please join us for the spiritually renewing, fun, relaxing weekend September 26th and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

In the Garden – Slow Food
Darlene Ristrim

On Wednesday, July 16, six people enjoyed a five-course meal prepared by Rev. Ben Daniel. Imagine walking into our Community Garden to find a table covered with a white cloth set amid the tomatoes, beans, squash and corn. I was mentally transported to a place far removed from San Jose…possibly the Cinque Terre in Italy. We enjoyed the first course of bread with dipping oil, home made pasta with vegetables purchased at a Farmer’s Market, grilled sausage (locally produced) with onions, cheese from Mendocino and Petaluma and finished our meal with plums from the church yard.

As we sang the Doxology the sound drifted through the rows of corn and over the other vegetables into the Dog Park. As we enjoyed our meal we were visited by gardeners coming to till the earth and someone from the Dog Park came over to say “hello”.

What is the Slow Food movement? It is not about crock pot cooking, it is not about eating in front of the TV, it is…well.many things…thinking about the process of growing from seed to plate, caring for God’s planet with responsible planting practices, taking time to enjoy food in the company of family and friends. Each person at the dinner has a different idea about slow food. If you’d like to hear other’s opinions on the subject just ask: Kathy Faler, Jane Wallace, Gene Hewitt, Joy Horch, Glenda Parmentier or talk to Ben.

The Love of GOD

The love of God is in my smile,
The love of God stays all the while.
In the sparkling of my eyes,
In my laughter and my sighs.

The love of God is in my heart.
The love of God will never depart,
From the trembling in my fears,
In my joys and in my tears.

The love of God is in my soul.
The love of God, it makes me whole,
In the passing of my days.
In my thoughts and in my ways.

The love of God, it lives with me,
The love of God is all mighty.
In the spirit, so it dwells.
In my hellos and my farewells.
